Vessel Construction

Columns

The heart of many process engineering plants. We manufacture columns and column-like apparatus for separation, washing, absorption, and distillation processes in the chemical and petrochemical industries. We guarantee absolute dimensional accuracy even for extreme heights and large diameters. In addition to the shell, we also handle—upon request—steel construction, internals, coatings, insulation, and preparation for installation and subsequent use.

Our Promise

Maximum pressure resistance, consistently safe operation

We guarantee perfect alignment even for components that rise several dozen meters high, while adhering to the tightest manufacturing tolerances to ensure precise fit. Our structures easily withstand wind and seismic loads and impress with their precision engineering, even when dealing with components weighing several metric tons.

Manufacturing Details

For columns, dimensional accuracy and the thoroughness of testing determine operational safety and longevity, especially for structures with large heights and diameters. We manufacture according to your specifications—from compact units to large columns segmented for easy transport—and ensure quality at every stage of production through comprehensive material traceability and testing in accordance with industry standards.

Dimensional accuracy in large-scale industrial applications

Manufacturing up to the following dimensions:

  • Diameter: up to 5 m
  • Single-piece length: up to 50 m
  • Unit weight: up to 150 metric tons
  • Wall thickness: up to 100 mm
  • Can be produced in multiple parts

In specific cases, we are happy to evaluate the feasibility of larger dimensions, special materials, and customized additional services. Please contact us—we will work with you to develop a suitable solution for your application.

Quality, in black and white

quality assurance (QA)

quality assurance (QA) At our company, a team of in-house certified inspectors handles this, covering a broad spectrum non-destructive and destructive testing methods, precise 3D measurement, and complete batch traceability. This ensures that every component meets our quality standards and complies with applicable regulations.

For a comprehensive and audit-ready Documentation Handled by our own team. All materials, components, and filler metals remain traceable; all documentation is stored in an audit-proof manner and prepared in accordance with standards and individual customer requirements.

FAQs

Important Information About Our Columns

The construction—and especially the logistics—of columns are projects in a class of their own. Learn more here about our maximum manufacturing dimensions, the integration of complex internals, and how we organize the transport of oversized loads from our plant in North Rhine-Westphalia.

How long does it take to develop a new piece of equipment or a new vessel? +

Development time varies depending on the complexity of the project. For simple vessels, the design can be completed in a few weeks, while more complex projects, such as custom-designed reactor vessels, can take several months. However, we always provide transparent project planning and keep all stakeholders informed of progress.

Do you also offer support with the installation and commissioning of the equipment? +

Our engineers provide technical support throughout the entire process, from design and manufacturing to installation and commissioning. We ensure that all equipment meets operational requirements and functions properly.

Can you also carry out customized calculations for specific requirements? +

Yes, our team of 6 engineers and designers specializes in tailor-made solutions. We perform detailed calculations and simulations based on the specific requirements of each project, be it for pressures, temperatures, material behavior or complex loads.

What are the typical applications for packed columns? +

Packed columns are used in processes that require high separation efficiency at relatively low flow rates, such as:

  • Absorption of gases in liquids.
  • Air and gas treatment in air pollution control.
  • Distillation of volatile liquids.
